Description

Hearty hot dish of braised pork with bell peppers, onions and mushrooms in a flavorful broth. Perfect for lunch.

  1. Cut the pork into large chunks (about 4-5 cm).
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or casserole and sear the pork over high heat until golden brown on all sides.
  3. Slice the red onion into half-rings and add to the meat. Saute for another 3-4 minutes, stirring.
  4. Cut the bell pepper into large pieces and add to the meat and onion. Saute for 5 minutes.
  5. Cut the mushrooms in half or quarters (if large), add to the other ingredients. Stir.
  6. Add sugar, apple cider vinegar, allspice berries, bay leaf and salt. Stir.
  7. Pour in some hot water (about 100-150 ml) so that the ingredients are half covered. Bring to a boil.
  8. Reduce the heat to low, cover and simmer for 40-50 minutes until the meat is tender.
  9. At the end of braising, add the minced garlic. Check for salt. Add more if needed.
  10. Remove from heat and let stand covered for 5-10 minutes.
  11. Sprinkle with finely chopped fresh parsley before serving.
