Description

Crispy red lentil balls with herbs and spices — a healthy alternative to classic falafel

  1. Soak red lentils in cold water for 2 hours (or 30 minutes in warm water)
  2. Drain and rinse the lentils
  3. Chop onion, garlic, cilantro and parsley
  4. Combine lentils, onion, garlic, herbs, cumin, coriander and cayenne pepper in a blender
  5. Blend until smooth paste-like consistency
  6. Add breadcrumbs and salt, mix well
  7. Form small balls about 3 cm in diameter
  8. Heat sunflower oil in a small pot to 170-180°C
  9. Fry falafel in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden brown
  10. Place on paper towel to remove excess oil
  11. For the sauce, mix sour cream with olive oil and lemon zest
  12. Serve falafel hot with the sauce
